Mission Over Tradition

What happens when a thriving movement runs into its first real organizational crisis? That is exactly the question at the heart of Acts 6, and the answer the early church discovered is just as urgent for us today. As believers rapidly multiplied in Jerusalem, a conflict emerged over whether Greek-speaking widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. Rather than ignoring the tension or letting it fester, the apostles addressed it head-on, and in doing so, they modeled something profound: healthy conflict resolution builds trust, strengthens unity, and actually accelerates the mission of the gospel. The apostles did not try to do everything themselves. They recognized their God-given lane, stayed in it, and empowered others to fill the gaps. This passage reminds us that knowing our specific mission, what breaks our hearts, what energizes us, and what God speaks to us in prayer, is not a luxury for spiritual leaders alone. It is a calling for every one of us. When we are clear on our why, we stop wasting our lives on things that pull us away from what God has actually commissioned us to do. Growth always brings challenges, but those challenges, when met with wisdom and unity, become the very fuel that drives the church forward.
