WK3 Consumer Church WWJ-UnDo? Series

LEADER’S NOTE: There are three short videos for this week. They are out of sequence on your DVD. Please note the discussion guide for correct viewing order.

1. START THE VIDEO

1: “wk3 MeChurch”

  • What did you hear Pastor Danny say during the morning message?
  • As you walked out of the service, in one sentence, what was the take away? (Go around the room and have everyone share.)

2. START THE VIDEO 2: “wk3 Consumer Church (CH 1)”

  • What’s one thing that stood out about the video?
  • Did you see anything about yourself in the video? What?

3. START THE VIDEO 3: “wk3 Consumer Church (CH 2)”

  • What’s one thing that stood out about the video?
  • Did you see anything about yourself in the video? What?

4. TALK ABOUT IT

During the message Pastor Danny gave some examples of: “You might be a Consumer Christian if………..”

  • How would you complete that sentence?
  • How have you acted like a consumer in your approach to God and His Church?

5. READ ABOUT IT:

He died for everyone so that those who receive His new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ…..
2 Corinthians 5:15 NLT

6. THINK ABOUT IT

  • How can we overcome a culture that encourages the church to behave like a merchant, and encourages the churchgoer to behave like a shopper?
  • Why is a shift in attitude so important?
  • In what ways could you stop living for yourself and start living for Jesus?

7. READ MORE ABOUT IT

For instance, there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas (which means “Son of Encouragement”). Acts 4:36

  • If people at McConnell were to give you a “nickname”, what would it be?

8. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT

  • How will you keep yourself from approaching God and the Church as a Consumer?
  • What are some things you can begin to do to be a church contributor and not a church consumer?

9. PRAY ABOUT IT

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.  Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.  Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.  You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Phil 2:1-5 (MSG)

Pray this scripture over yourself and your McConnell church family.

Key Scriptures:

Then, going over to the people who sold doves, He told them, “Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!”

John 2:16 NLT

45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve….Mark 10:45 NKJV
