Unmixed Love….Part 1

Pastor Steve TaylorFasting 2017

Do you love God? We say with our lips that we love God, but is there really more to it
than that? We focus so much on God’s love and grace for us that we neglect to love
Him back. That’s not how it’s supposed to be.
We love Him because He first loved us.
1 John 4:19 NKJV
Ask a typical church goer if they love God and chances are they would say “Yes”. After
all, how many would claim to believe in God and not love Him? But are we answering
that question using the Biblical definition of love or our own definition of love?
So, in order to better understand our Lord’s definition of love, let’s look at God’s Word.
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.
John 14:15 NKJV
Whoever has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me
will be loved by My Father, and I too will love them and show Myself to them.”
John 14:21 NIV
Loving God means keeping His commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome.
1 John 5:3 NLT
It’s obvious that loving God is defined by keeping and obeying God’s commands. Regardless of
the loving things we might say and sing about God or to God in public or private, when we
disobey and ignore His commands, we’re showing that we in fact don’t love Him.
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word;
24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words;
John 14:23a-24a NKJV
It’s our obedience to God’s Word that revels our love for God.
Prayer Focus: Do you love God? Selah. Think about it.
