TOXIC THOUGHTS

SOUL DETOX
We are not a body with a soul. We are a soul with a body. The world teaches us to detox our
bodies. But sometimes we need to detox our soul.
Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your
hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. James 4:8 NLT
It is so easy to have toxic thoughts—thoughts that tell us lies about ourselves, thoughts
that cause us to act, react, and respond to things negatively. Have you ever thought,
“I’m not good enough,” “life doesn’t matter,” “I’ll never be good enough,” “God doesn’t
care about me,” “that’s so stupid,” or “I hate this about myself”?
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23
NLT
What you think determines what you become. If you are always thinking negative or
toxic thoughts then you act negatively or view yourself as low. If you fill your mind with
good and positive thoughts you will act positively and view yourself as worth being
treated well.
It’s so important to identify your toxic thoughts and then reject them. Get rid of them.
Get them out of your head. Then learn to replace those thoughts with God’s truth—that
you’re loved, you have worth, you have a great purpose. And His truth goes on and on.
THINK ABOUT IT
1. What are some of the causes of the toxic thoughts in your life? Why do you think
that is?
2. What are some specific toxic thoughts that you need to change? How can you begin
to change them?
3. Read Romans 12:2 NLT. What does this mean to you? How can you apply it to
your life? What is the outcome of this passage?
4. Negative thoughts are lies. We need to have God’s truth in our minds. What do you
know to be positive truths about you?
