We are not a body with a soul. We are a soul with a body. The world teaches us to detox our
bodies. But sometimes we need to detox our soul.
Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your
hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. James 4:8 NLT
Just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s good for us. Without even knowing
it, we willingly inhale second-hand toxins poisoning our relationship with God and stunt
our spiritual growth. Culture has accepted so many things that are poison to our soul.
Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead,
fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he
wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you
down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity
in you. Romans 12:2 MSG
We should test everything by God’s standards. Every TV show, movie,
music choice, etc.
But test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.
Stay away from every kind of evil.
1Thessalonians 5:21-22 NLT
1. Look up and read 1 Corinthians 6:12 NLT. What do you think this verse
means? How can you apply it to your life?
2. What are some things that you like and think are fun, but you know might
not be God’s best for you?
3. What are some toxic influences in your life?
4. How can you remove those toxins from your life?
5. What are some positive influences you have in your life? How are they
positive and how do they benefit you?
