We are not a body with a soul. We are a soul with a body. The world teaches us to detox our
bodies. But sometimes we need to detox our soul.
Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your
hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. James 4:8 NLT
What you fear reveals what you value most and where you trust God least.
So where are you trusting God the least? Is that an area where you fear the most?
Where do you ask the “what if” questions in your life?
What if…I lose my job?
What if…I’m not good enough?
What if…he/she stops loving me?
What if…I disappoint them?
Fear isn’t really the opposite of faith; it’s placing your faith in something other than God.
Just like a kid afraid of whats under the bed, we believe in our fears more than we do
our God.
If we live by fear then we will miss out on so much God has for us. It was not God’s
intention for us to be fearful about things. As a matter of fact the more we seek God the
more our fears disappear. David discovered this and writes:
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me. He delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4
1. Fill in the blank: I am fearful of losing__? I am scared of failing at__? I worry about
being rejected by__? The thing that scares me most about my future is__?
2. Look up and read 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT. What do you think this means? What does it
mean by power? How can you apply this to your life?
3. Which areas of your life do you feel like you trust God least?
4. How can you overcome your fears?
