A Call To Holiness

Pastor Steve TaylorFasting 2017

But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written:
“Be holy, because I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:15-16 (NIV)
Read About It: 1 Peter 1:14-25
How would you describe God? What words would you use? You might want to begin with holy because it is one of the
chief ways God describes himself. So when we think about what it means to be holy and what it means to live holy lives,
we need to look at God. As our Father, He expects his children to imitate and model his standards in how we conduct
ourselves in the world and with others. He also knows that this is easier said than done.
Think About It: After people commit their lives to Christ, they usually still feel a pull back to their old ways. When
God tells us that we are to be holy just as he is holy, he is asking more from us than we first imagine. He has set us apart
for His purposes in the world but He knows that we cannot do this on our own. This is why God has given us His Spirit to
help us obey Him and to give us the power to over come sin.
God never asks us to do something without first giving us
the power to be something first.
Pray About It:
• How does Peter’s call to holiness in this passage challenge you are home, work, church, or in your
relationships with others?
• What is one area of your life where you are struggling to be obedient?
• What makes loving others a good test to see if a person really has had a change of heart?
